Apple was granted a new patent related to Siri and photos, including those taken from an iPhone. Apple's idea is using the voice assistant to better sort the different shots captured by the user. An idea that goes in this direction exists on iOS 7. The user has a rank of photos with places shooting including. So Apple wants to go further.

The patent describes the use of Siri. The user would use the voice assistant to tag his photos or tag other people. Just said a simple sentence like "This is me at the beach" after selecting the photo in question beforehand. The iPhone could then recognize the face and facilitate research. Thus, if the user uses Siri later to say: "Show me a picture of me when I was at the beach", the iPhone would display the requested photo in an instant.

Apple knows that iPhone owners will not have to do that to tag each photo one by one. Thus, the smartphone could automatically tag each person through facial recognition. This mechanism already exists on software like iPhoto, which Apple develops.

In the immediate future, it is impossible to know whether Apple will integrate such a system in iOS 8. It is not impossible, but nothing is certain. Having a patent does not mean it will be used for the same.
