Well, Planetbeing of the evad3rs team brought us the good news that they probably have all the pieces for the iOS 7 jailbreak.

We take a look at what this means, and lots of other details about the iOS 7 jailbreak.

Behind the scenes

Cammy from iDesignTimes brings us some more exclusive details about the jailbreak. She says that she had spoken to pod2g earlier this week (before planetbeing’s tweet). At that he had told her:

“I found several vulnerabilities for iOS 7. Just missing a few and we’re good to go … I hope that we will succeed.”

And it looks like within couple of days, they had figured out all or at least most of the pieces for the iOS 7 jailbreak. It just gives us an idea on the progress the evad3rs team is making on jailbreaking iOS 7.

MuscleNerd, another key member of the evad3rs team told her “Yeah definitely, [we've made progress] but don’t jinx it. The kernel stuff is a tough nut.”

Will the jailbreak be released before iOS 7.1 and launch of the new iPads?

It also remains to be seen if they’ll release the jailbreak immediately, or will wait for Apple to release iOS 7.1, which is expected to be released later this month with the launch of the new iPads. pod2g told iDesignTimes that they will think about that when they’ve something ready.

What else needs to fall in place before iOS 7 jailbreak is released to the public?

It is also important to note that in addition to the tool to jailbreak iOS 7, there are few other things that need to fall in place such as iOS 7 compatible Cydia, critical modules like mobile substrate, jailbreak tweaks etc.

saurik seems to be already working with Surenix, developer of the awesome ayecon theme and a member of the evad3rs team, to update the user interface for iOS 7 and on any compatibility issues.

It is also quite likely that the jailbreak tweaks will be broken in iOS 7 due to the changes in APIs etc. So as soon as the iOS 7 jailbreak is released, Cydia developers will have to work overtime to update their tweaks for iOS 7, as most developers are unlikely to get early access to the jailbreak.

Will the jailbreak support my iOS device?

We’re expect almost all iOS 7 compatible devices will be supported including the iPhone 5c. However, since iPhone 5s comes with the new 64-bit A7 chip it is bit of an unknown territory. We’ll have to wait for the evad3rs team to give us an update. pod2g has been using iPhone 5s, so we’re quite sure jailbreaking it would be high on his priority.

It also remains to be seen if they can finally jailbreak Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3, as one couldn’t jailbreak them with evasi0n jailbreak. However, we expect it to support iOS 7.0.1 and iOS 7.0.2

Is iOS 7 Jailbreak Release Date near?

pod2g has reminds us not to be overly optimistic. He tweeted that assembling pieces for the iOS 7 jailbreak may take a while.

Last Thursday Apple released iOS 7.0.2, which corrected a glaring security issue: users could bypass the lock screen passcode. Unfortunately, some folks have run into trouble with the upgrade. Under certain circumstances, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches have been left unable to work.

If your machine isn't working right after the 7.0.2 upgrade, please follow these steps to restore it to operating condition:

  1. Make sure you've updated to iTunes 11.1
  2. Plug your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into iTunes
  3. Agree to trust the computer if iOS 7 asks
  4. Backup your device, if you don't want a clean install
  5. Click "Restore"
  6. Let iTunes download and re-install iOS 7 on your device

If iTunes says there's no newer version to update to, you can force the issue by putting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode after the backup, then doing the restore. DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode will make sure you download and install the latest release version of iOS off of Apple's servers.
